The Beautiful Project

Tuesday 29th January 2013

Some friends of mine welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world today, and it reminded me how amazing life is. Every moment from conception to old age is a beautiful progression. When a woman falls pregnant, people often remark on the miracle of life, and it really is a miracle. But when does it suddenly stop being such as beautiful a miracle as when that new life comes into the world for the first time? When you reach your twenties, thirties, forties, fifties, or older, is the process of life and growth less beautiful than when it was at the very beginning. The constant repilication of cells, the natural movement of blood around the body, the beating of your heart, the process of breathing, and not to mention all the other things we forget to think about like the constant growth of our hair and fingernails... Wow. Each part of your body is so intricately woven, and it's just ass beautiful a process as when you were first developing. So this video of the miracle of life is definitely a beautiful miracle. And so are you.

Saturday 26th, Sunday 27th, and Monday 28th January 2013

Thursday 24th and Friday 25th January 2013

I love the fact that we have the ability to see; we have thse eyes that enable us to gaze at the world around us and not only appreciate beauty, but create it.

Wednesday 23rd January 2013

I was never particularly great at biology, but the process of life really is something.

Tuesday 22nd January 2013

Wow.

Monday 21st January 2013

I can't believe it's taken me so long to even say this, but the sky at night really is something.
The endless, inky black, speckled with random spots of light. It reminds you how small you are, yet how important you are to God.

Sunday 20th January 2013

I typed the word 'beautiful' into Google images and this is the picture that came up first:
Beautiful - love Photo

It had the caption 'beautiful love'. Now, whilst it is a lovely picture, I want to look past the actual picture and think about the sentiment. Because real love, true, honest love is a beautiful thing, and sometimes a person can think that they are not worth receiving that love. Or they think it's just a fairytale; a carefully constructed myth that has mankind fooled, especially if one takes a minute to think about all the awful things in the world. I don't want to diminish those terrible things that are happening right now as I write this, or perhaps, as you read this, but love really is a beautiful thing. Family love, romantic love, friendly love. If the roots of those emotions are based on an honest and self-sacrificing foundation, then I think it's a beautiful thing.

Tuesday 15th, Wednesday 16th, Thursday 17th, Friday 18th, and Saturday 19th January 2013

Sorry it's late this week! Things have been hectic.

Monday 14th January 2013

I'm gradually learning to love the snow. I dislike all the problems to my commute it creates, but I love how a dusting of white can make even the most undesirable of settings look magical and beautiful.

Sunday 13th January 2013

Mirrors. They come in all shapes and sizes. They reflect just one part of who we are; they show us the way we look to the outside world. But we are more than a reflection. We are multi-faceted. We are more than a reflection. We are more. Much more.

Vintage fairs are amazing. It's nice to remember that beauty and worth is found in the objects that one might perceive as useless or decayed.

Friday 11th January 2013

Words. They can be used to bring joy, sadness, peace, terror, love, or hate.
They can create beauty. They can create horror.
How do you use yours?

Thursday 10th January 2013

I love being around people I can geek out to about all my crazy obsessions, and there is a lot of them!
Massive appreciation for writers of films, books, and television programmes, for creating amazing stories that inspire me in my writing.

Wednesday 9th January 2013

This morning, during an episode of chaos involving a cat, a television, and DIY, I found the following picture. It was drawn in 2007 whilst I was working at St. Michael's Hospice, by a patient who had an inoperable brain tumour. Every week, this patient would come to the hospice for the day and take part in art therapy, and it was only today that I fully appreciated the picture that had been drawn for me. It may look like a bunch of random lines, but it is so much more. This person, suffering and in pain, and unable to fully communicate with anyone, gave me a beautiful gift. They were determined to create something beautiful during a time of sadness, anxiety, frustration, and pain. I still can't imagine the strength this person demonstrated throughout the final chapter of their life, and the determination they showed in persevering to create something beautiful is incredible.

Tuesday 8th January 2013

Today, I enjoyed spending time on Skype with a friend. Friendship is an important gift I often forget to be thankful for. No one is ever replaceable, and each relationship I have will have a lasting impact on my life, even if those friendships cease, or if I lose touch with people. Friends leave an indelible and incredible mark on our lives. They help shape us, and they support us. I feel blessed to be surrounded by beautiful people- those in my past, my present, and those I have yet to meet in the future- and I'm grateful to them for the privilege of being in their lives.

Monday 7th January 2013

So today has been a little bit rubbish, having discovered that I have been rejected from another university. But I'm confident that God has great plans for me!
And a little bit of "Miranda" has cheered me up!

Sunday 6th January 2013

Christmas decorations have been packed away, and although sad, it means that a new season is beginning!
So I'm being optimistic, instead of focusing on the trials ahead.

Saturday 5th January 2013

Well, I've been on hold trying to get my internet fixed, or asleep for most of today, so I'm finding this project difficult this afternoon.
But I will say that the following song did make the whole process of being on hold, and the failure to reconnect the internet, just a little more enjoyable.

Sunlight reflecting on oil.
Because even in the midst of something dark and disgusting, beauty can be found:

Thursday 3rd January 2013

This is what I decided to write on our bathroom scales today.
Sometimes the lie regarding the relationship between your weight/appearance and your self worth can invade the mind. Such a lie can consume our thoughts, demolishing a person's self confidence, and leaving behind only destruction and scars.
So if you're anything like me, whether you are a girl or a guy, fill your mind with the truth that you are a beautiful, irreplaceable, uniquely and deliberately created individual, and there is nothing wrong with the way you look. Nothing.

Wednesday 2nd January 2013

Thank you God for beautiful friends and wonderful memories.
An old picture, but a great day today with Lydia.

Tuesday 1st January 2013

For the first time in ages, there was sunshine! Finally. A lovely natural beauty to mark the beginning of a new year. I got to spend the day with my parents, (and our cat Pebbles), and it was a lovely reminder of how important my family are.
Happy New Year!
